Home Alone at Christmas

No need to be afraid
Topics

'Tis the season for Christmas movies! Our family still watches Home Alone each year.

Do you remember when Kevin McCallister slips into a church? He barely sits down before he meets Old Man Marley—a neighbour who's frightened him through the film.

But in the pew, he converses with Kevin—we realise that Marley is the opposite of scary.

He is sad, lonely and afraid.

Kevin asks, "Aren't you a little old to be afraid?"

Marley says, "You're never too old to be afraid."

In a season where angels command us not to be afraid,

we all can realise we are never too old to be afraid, but we're also never too old to be saved from our fears.

My friends, I hope this Christmas you can experience the warm presence of Immanuel:

Jesus, God with us.

Indeed, God can be with you and you don't need to be afraid, or...home alone.
