Don't Look Up... or should we?

If we don’t look we will never see. If we never see we will never believe.

I loved the movie “Don’t Look Up” (2021)

The two heroes – played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence – try to warn people that a comet will hit earth and kill everyone.

People must “look up” and they will see and believe. But most refuse. They adopt the opposite motto: “Don’t Look Up!”

No spoilers here. But if we know a comet will kill us -- what will we do?

At the end of the movie, one character crassly says (and I paraphrase), “We can have sex or we can pray.”

In other words, is life merely about pleasure and survival? Or is there something more?

Do we keep looking down? Stay self-absorbed? Paying bills and surviving? Or do we look up at the stars and connect with a bigger story than our own? Do we worship the God who made the stars – who loves and saves us?

If we don’t look we will never see. If we never see we will never believe.
