John Anderson is a sixth-generation farmer and grazier from New South Wales, who spent 19 years from 1989 in the Australian Parliament. He served as a senior Cabinet minister in the reformist government led by John Howard (1996 to 2005), one of the most successful governments in Australian parliamentary history. This included six years as Leader of the National Party and Deputy Prime Minister.
He also held the position of the 10th Leader of the National Party of Australia during his time as Deputy PM. In 2005 he announced his retirement and resigned from his positions as Deputy PM and the National Party leader, but remained on as MP in the House of Representatives until his retirement in 2007.
