In this world driven by social media, everybody knows what an influencer is.

Right? Well, maybe not your grandmother, unless she has her own YouTube channel. Still, the role of these Insta-persuaders is something we all see daily. Yet, is it new to society?

Throughout history, people have influenced communities to do and think in specific ways. At The Edge, we want to look at the influencer's role in history and life.

Our speakers will address how we are influenced and how we influence others, even if we do not wear the influencer title.

Jeri Jones Sparks works in Sydney. Her idea of a perfect day includes a 3-hour discussion analysing pop culture, with a conversation specialty in The Kardashians, YouTube Vloggers and Pop Rap. Jeri is married to Andrew, she is a Thamizh Indian-Australian woman living on Wangal Country.

Sam Chan

Dr. Sam Chan is one of Third Space's national communicators. He is a cultural analyst, theologian, public speaker, author, medical doctor, and karaoke buddy. Sam was born in Hong Kong, grew up and lives in Australia, studied medicine at the University of Sydney, and did his PhD in Chicago, USA. He is a published author of five books.

Laura Bennett

Laura currently hosts the Afternoons program on Hope 103.2 along with their top-rating podcast series, UNDISTRACTED. Laura is a Masters media graduate who’s worked in broadcast journalism for over a decade, covering events both in Australia and overseas with a penchant for entertainment reviews and celebrity interviews. Laura self-published her bestselling book ‘Live Your Dream’ in 2015, and admits to spending much of 2020 cross-stitching and taking up paint-by-numbers.
