What do you do when you are thrown a curveball in life? Should we calculate our probability of success and hope for the best? Or are we better off by trusting in God's providence: his caring provision for his people as he guides them in their journey of faith through life?

David Minty has been working as an actuary for 41 years. If you were to ask him what his career was like, he'd say it's far from a straight line. In 1996, his promising actuarial career was thrown a curveball when he came across James Hardie as a client. Never did he imagine that he'd be involved in the landmark litigation for 12 years.

"The sunk cost of time and legal fees can still produce some return", says David. Since 2017, David has played an instrumental role in the evolution of the Actuaries Institute's Code of Conduct. David continues to be involved in running professionalism courses at the Actuaries Institute and enjoys visiting student actuaries at the University of New South Wales to help them think about relevance of professional conduct in their own lives.
