Why do we dislike them?

Bible reference(s): Matthew 23:25

I think it's fair to say we all dislike hypocrites. Be they politicians, business leaders, and most especially, religious people;

I think it's universal to be averse to somebody who says one things and does the opposite.

It's interesting that Jesus reserved some of His most harsh judgements for the religious hypocrites of His day—those who were outwardly religious, but whose lives were inconsistent with the message. He condemned them by saying things like:

"You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside, they are full of greed and self-indulgence."

Jesus saw hypocrites in His day, and He condemned them. Which means that just because someone claims to be religious—if their lives are deeply inconsistent with the message, it doesn't necessarily mean that they're genuine believers.

So from Jesus' words, it seems that our impulse to denounce hypocrites is justified.
