If your car's GPS asked you if you wanted to take a big, bold, beautiful journey, not knowing what was about to occur, would you take up the offer? Director Kogonada (After Yang) takes audiences on an unconventional, soul-searching romantic adventure into the past of two people to see if they can move forward in life and love.

Sarah (Margot Robbie) and David (Colin Farrell) attend a friend's wedding after hiring rental cars from The Car Rental Company and fail to connect after the ceremony. Until their vehicle's navigation system suggests they take an alternative route home. As they both step into this ethereal odyssey with a romantic edge, both are encouraged to open doors into chapters of their past lives. Each portal into their hidden memories exposes a portion of the hard exterior they have built up over the years to keep themselves from addressing these difficult events that would otherwise cause future pain. Yet, they are expected to navigate these moments together and contemplate what they are meant to learn about one another, and whether their history will draw them closer or drive a wedge in a potential relationship.

From the opening credits, Kogonada's cinematic eye should be a warning to audiences that this story is going to be a beautifully presented journey into the human soul. The cast and each set are a stunning expression of an artist's heart who wants the viewer to be immersed in this fantasy world that is anchored in a modern reality. Each scene is framed with detail that combines every element of the frame, which is complemented by the contemplated theatrical elements that may be hard for contemporary tastes to embrace. Think of this experience as being like walking into a modern museum with magnificent artwork after taking in a steady diet of graphic superhero novels. To be truly appreciated, this movie will stretch the creative maturity of the viewer, who, once fully engaged, can understand what is unfolding before them.

Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell are convincing as these broken individuals who are meant to reconfigure the puzzle pieces of their lives and possibly realise that the missing portions are found in one another. The romantic tension ebbs and flows as they travel through each door, seeing if they will come to realise they are meant for one another. Like the potential masterworks hanging on the walls of the local art gallery, people will need to embrace the subjectivity of what unfolds before them to see if they are willing to appreciate the artist's work of the director, cinematographer, writer and actors. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey expects a maturity in the eyes and minds of those who come along on this adventure, one that is worth taking and potentially discovering something about themselves along the way.

REEL DIALOGUE: Can we make up for our past?

Redemption: an act of redeeming or atoning for a fault or mistake, or the state of being redeemed. Deliverance from sin; salvation.

The concept of redemption and forgiveness are the driving forces woven into A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey. As the story unfolds, David and Sarah attempt to find a different future, but within the hope for a new path, they must confront their past. At its core, his story addresses some of life's fundamental needs. Love, forgiveness and redemption.

Travelling through life, most of us come to a point where we seek redemption for various things we have done. Trying to find a means of rectifying the wrongs we have done to people, society or God. This concept lies at the heart of the Bible's message. Jesus' life and death offer a unique form of redemption readily available to anyone willing to accept it.

He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name! - Psalm 111:9
