The age-old aphorism ‘he’s so heavenly minded that he’s no earthly good’ has a strong grip in our consciousness. Indeed, we normally associate ‘religion’ as restrictive, and ‘secularity’ as liberating. But in a bible passage that begins with the famous words ‘I tell you, do not worry about your life…’, Jesus is recorded as arguing the exact opposite.

Kamal writes: ‘By narrowing our horizons to this world, secularity encourages greed and consequent anxiety, whereas belief in a benevolent God and his gift of eternal life encourages contentment, confidence, and benevolence.’
