‘Gather ‘round people, I’ll tell you a story, An eight-year long story of power and pride, British Lord Vestey and Vincent Lingiari, Were opposite men on opposite sides…’. So begins Paul Kelly’s famous song ‘From Little Things, Big Things Grow’. In 2008 Paul Kelly wrote "From Little Things Big Things Grow has its roots in songs like Woody Guthrie’s Deportees and The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll by Bob Dylan. And those songs grew out of the soil of other older songs." Could one of these ‘older songs’ have been from the lips of the master story-teller himself, in his parable of the mustard seed? Come along to the last City Legal for 2023, on Thursday 23 Nov and hear Dr Peter Jensen’s take on this oldest-of-old story.
