Why is Nahendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister, so popular?

He is, by far, the world's most popular elected leader, with incredibly high approval ratings. And people have wondered why.

Well, one journalist from The Economist suggested the reason for this was because

'in a time of tumultuous change, many Indians crave a kingly figure whom they can thank for the progress they can hope for, and trust to manage the uncertainties they fear'.

He's popular because the Indian people want a good king.

There is something appealing and satisfying about trusting a good king

and many see this in Nahendra Modi. But Modi is far from perfect, and will eventually fail his people in some way.

But this is why Jesus is an even better king. For Jesus is wiser, stronger and more powerful than any human ruler, and this is why Jesus is worth trusting.

Because He is the King we crave.
