Jobs, life & death

Perhaps you were, like me, saddened by the news of Steve Jobs death last week.
I listened to his commencement address to Stanford University delivered six or so years ago after his first encounter with cancer. In that address he speaks about how through his life he had used the reality that one day he would die as motivation to lead a good life.
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.”
These words go deep and they ring true. It seems to me that in our western world death is so far from view that we struggle not to waste our short lives on the trivial. The question is what is really important in life? What is the thing that you would risk everything to gain?
From the designer of the apple computer to the designer of the apple – Jesus told the following story as he made his way to Jerusalem knowing that he was going to die
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field."
Matt 13:44
How does the reality that you will one day die change the way you live now?
