Pulling back the curtain on dystopia

Discovering the fine line between dystopian films and Revelation

Welcome to the Pulling Back the Curtain on Dystopia series with Reel Dialogue's Russ Matthews

Dystopian literature and films have infiltrated all genres of the media. These storylines are prolific in dictating how we see the future, influence our emotions, heighten our fears and even can dictate our beliefs.

Are these narratives similar or different than what we can know from the book of Revelation? Be apart of this four part series where Russ Matthews (Reel Dialogue) will describe the similarities of the book of Revelation and dystopian films. He will look into the separation of the these two worlds and what we gain from their similarities and differences.

Part 1 - This video answers the questions: Who is this talk series for and how does this apply to my life?

Three groups this short talk series is directed to:

  1. Those who love dystopian film, Revelation or any combination of these two topics
  2. Those who are not interested in dystopian films or television, but would love to know how to engage in conversations (even Gospel conversations) through their discussion of these topics
  3. Those who may have never engaged with Revelation, but do find dystopian or apocalyptic discussions interested, intriguing or even a bit scary. You are curious to know more.

If you fit into any of these categories, this talk is for you.

Part 2 - Russ will describe dystopia. This section will also provide a broad overview of the talk, what the talk will and will not cover and set up the next two videos.

Part 3 - This section we will go over the broad brush strokes of the book of Revelation. Which will help to set up the comparison of ultimate dystopian films and this fascinating book of the Bible.

Part 4 - Part four of this series, Russ will describe the the similarities of the book of Revelation and dystopian films. He will look into the separation of the these two worlds and what we gain from their similarities and differences.

Four key points of comparison:

  • The view of society
  • The failure of mankind
  • The heroes for society
  • The view of the future

We hope you enjoy this series from Reel Dialogue, Third Space and City Bible Forum
